Koku Bytes – Interactive Recipe Platform
A content-driven recipe platform built with Next.js and Sanity CMS, designed to enable seamless recipe subscription and viewing, M-Pesa payment integration, and scalable user engagement.

The Challenge
The client required a digital platform to commercialize her recipes in a format that extended beyond traditional downloadable recipe cards. Rather than offering recipes as static downloads, the objective was to create an interactive reading experience where customers could easily access, read, and follow recipes directly within the platform. Additionally, the client wanted a system that could support future community engagement features, including user interactions and commenting.
The Solution
We designed and developed a content-based digital platform using Next.js and Sanity CMS to deliver a fast, scalable, and SEO-optimized user experience. The platform prioritizes readability, structured content presentation, and seamless navigation to ensure the customer has a great experience consuming the recipes. Daraja API integration enabled secure M-Pesa payment processing, allowing customers to purchase and access recipes without manual payment handling. The CMS integration ensured that the client could easily create, edit, and expand recipe content without having to rely on the developer for every new recipe.
Project Process
Phase 1 – Platform Strategy & Content Architecture
In the first phase, planning and mapping was done in terms of how the recipe content would be structured, the user journey/flow, and the basic user experience principles to be met to ensure readability and intuitive navigation.
Phase 2 – CMS & Payment Integration
In the second phase, the respective pages in the user journey were designed and developed. The site was also linked to the CMS and payment integration was done for the Mpesa STK push.
Phase 3 – Performance & Scalability Optimization
In the third phase, tests were done to ensure platform stability. Additionally, analytics tracking were put in place, and SEO foundations to support traffic growth and behavioural insights. After this phase, the initial launch of the first version was done.
